Discussion: Personal Assistant

We could all use a half dozen minions or so. But until world domination, what would you have a personal assistant do? Manage your social networks? Write posts? Host your giveaways? Take care of the blog tours? Send out e-mails on your behalf? What else?

    Well, to start, this personal assistant can look for all the missing Lego parts, take that pile of outgrown clothing getting dusty by the door to Goodwill, and put together some Pivot tables and Powerpoint slides.

    Clean saddles and tack, pick up the sick kiddo from school, bake a loaf of bread, sit and listen attentively to Sweetie as he goes on and on about alpha acids in hop varieties. (oops, did I say that last one?)

    Then they can bring me a margarita. On the rocks, no salt .

    Type up all of my hand-written pages. It’s so tedious to stop writing and type it all up at the end of the day. But if I don’t so many pages pile up that it becomes a huge monster of a job.

    And I totally agree with Debra – they can keep me happy with margaritas! ;)

      Good one! I have to write on the computer. I can’t read my own handwriting–poor assistant would have no clue where to start!

    Let’s see – clean my house, grade my papers, do any other type of annoying school paperwork, call the insurance company and deal with that headache, listen to my husband talk about programming code and COLOs and overfails and all the other stuff that makes no sense to me. Oh, and do laundry and iron my clothes and shine my shoes.

    My personal assistants can handle organizing the stuff for my business, helping with visibility, doing all the little tasks I do not have time for, talking me down when I’m overwhelmed, and so much more… oh right I had interns to handle that until they learned too much now we need new minions.

    I would have my assistant stalk me online to make sure I don’t accidentally spell something wrong online, because I tend not to pay attention. I should put out an add “distracted ya author needs twitter and facebook editor. Must be able to work while rolling eyes several times per day…”
    :) Oh, and writing generic blog posts. That would be awesome!

      Stalking editor would be fantastic. I like writing blog posts though. I’d rather they do the “clicky” work like approving stuff and weeding out emails. Oh, and schedule the actual posts!

    Brutal critiquing, plus everything to do with social media! However, I must admit that if I had a choice between a personal assistant and a housekeeper, I’d choose the latter and use the time saved to write!
