Discussion: Favorite Scene

Do you “revisit” your favorite scene(s) in a book you wrote?

If yes, which book?

What scene?

Why is it your favorite?

Was the scene one you already had in your head before writing the story, or one that developed organically during writing?

I did with the previous book, and I’m doing something similar with my current project. I’m in the re-re-re-revising stage, and there is a particular chapter that I keep going back to.
I found that I’m not going back to it because it needs to be revised or touched up, but because I love how the dark scene unfolds in my mind as I’m reading it. The antagonist has always been my favorite character to write, and she is a total badass in this book.
This scene (actually two scenes separated by a few chapters) is something that quickly developed after I introduced the antagonist. It was dark and fun as hell to write.

I love the fact you have a re-re-re-revising stage =) Does this book have a release date?

I do. I probably have a few scenes that i tend to revisit. I have to run to work, but I will try to come back and explain why!

I have a few favorite scenes in most of my manuscripts. Some were scenes I had in my head long before writing them, some were scenes I had in my head but then came out way different when I actually wrote them, some just developed. There doesn’t seem to be a pattern for my personal favorite scenes, so I’m not sure why I love the ones that I love so much. It’s a fun game of discovery, though – like anything with writing. ;-)

True! It’s strange what winds up resounding with us, both as readers and writers.
