How would you describe yourself?
Eclectic, independent, creative, muser, occasionally wonky, Halloween nut, animal & nautre lover, and I love all things weird, creepy, mysterious and out of the ordinary. Honestly, conventionality bores the heck out of me.
How would you describe what you write?
It’s a good mix of romance, horror, snarkiness, tension, and suspense, with a dash of morals. You can usually find a message or two in my books.
What inspired you to start writing your first book?
I’d have to say Stephen King. After reading “Pet Sematary” in 8th grade, I suddenly had an urge to start writing my own books. I can remember a classmate overhearing me saying “I want to write a book”, and he looked at me and laughed out loud. (And can you believe all these years later he had the audacity to send a friend request on FaceBook?! You can guess my reply to that!)
Do you prefer chocolate or vanilla?
For icecream and milk, vanilla. Chocolate for everything else, lol!
What authors influence your writing?
I can’t say they influenced, but they do inspire. King, Davidson, and Vincent Price (and yep, not only was he an excellent actor, he was an author too! Just watching him inspires me!)
What one writing tip do you have for new authors?
Start networking before your book is even out!! This is SO important.
Did you self or traditionally publish, and why did you choose that route?
I have on book traditionally published, and I have short stories in various anthologies, but I’m definitely a DIY gal. It’s more liberating, although it has a lot more responsibility added to it.
Do you have a blog, and how has it helped with your promotional efforts?
I use Facebook/Goodreads/Twitter for my promotional endeavors. And if I get a chance to go to conventions, I use them as well. They’re extremely helpful when you’re unable to do things face-to-face.
What one thing are you OCD about, in general?
Hmmm….not sure if I’m at the OCD level just yet, lol, but I am a little fussy when it comes to proofreading and artwork.
What is the most creative way you have promoted any of your books?
JFay of Studio3B.com is a dear friend and makes absolutely delicious smelling perfumes for authors and entertainers. I have a signature perfume for my latest book, “Diary of a Vampire Stripper”, called “Strawberry Strip Tease”–a combination of strawberry and bubblegum. She’s done prefumes for me before, and she’s wildly popular.
What would you do differently if you had to start over?
Started networking way earlier than I did!!
Where do you hope to see yourself in the next five years?
Not insanely rich, but at least making a living off of my books.
What are the first three rules you would make if you took over the world?
1.Stop all racial intolerance. We’ve got enough problems on this planet as it is than to have to worry about people hating/killing people because of their skin color. It’s the most stupid and small-minded problem humans have.
2. End animal cruelty. All humans subjecting animals to any bodily harm will have the same cruelty dished out to them. Period.
3. Promote ecological preservation. We’ve seen enough horrors with BP and the like over the last few years. It’s got to stop, now.
